New Classroom Space

It seems like it had only been about a month since I'd been into Aunt Judy's Attic (a whole month?! How did I let that much time between visits go by?!), and things have been shaken up in there!

Aunt Judy's Attic has a brand new classroom space! To increase the class space last year the classroom was moved from the side room to upstairs. This gave much more space, but carrying machines and supplies up and down those stairs could get pretty tricky. Some of these sewing machines are heavier than a car! Okay, maybe not that heavy, but they sure feel like it when you're trying to haul it up a staircase. So to make things even better they space next door to the store was turned into a large and well lit classroom with ample room, great counter space, wall room, and plenty of room for friends and sewing machines.

Isn't that great?! Moving the classroom in there cleared up room to move the quilting machine into the side room, which cleared up more room for...drum roll please, MORE fabric! Who couldn't love that?! Aunt Judy's customers really love it!

If you haven't been in to see the new set up yet, drop by and take a look! You'll love it!

New Riley Blake Fabrics in the Store

At Terrific Tuesday this week we showcased two Riley Blake fabrics we now carry in the store. These prints are sure to sell out fast, so come get your cut while you can!

Aren't those sweet?! They would make the cutest baby quilt, great flannel board paper dolls, or even a fun wall hanging for a vintage kitchen.

2015 Mystery Quilt: Needle in a Haystack

At our January Terrific Tuesday we introduced a fun new Mystery Quilt project in the store! We are doing Debbie Caffrey's Needle in a Haystack quilt pattern, one step a month.

What is a mystery quilt?
A mystery quilt is a fun quilting project where you don't know the end result. The pattern gives you yardage, along with print and value suggestions, but that is all you know at the beginning.

How does a mystery quilt work?
Once you have your fabric picked out you are ready to start. Each month (for 6 months) we will be giving out the next step. This gives you plenty of time to complete each step and keep up (or to join in late if you decide you want to hop in on the fun). By the time Terrific Tuesday comes around in July, you'll have a finished quilt to show off!

This quilt finishes at 60" x 76" (a large lap quilt or twin bed cover), but borders can be added to up this to a queen size.

Fabric selection:
For mystery quilts you want contrast between each of your fabrics so that you can distinguish each fabric easily. The pattern suggests to "choose a variety of scales and/or visual textures for interest. Avoid directional fabrics unless you are prepared to ignore their prints."
Here are examples of fabrics that Judy and Donna picked out:

Want to give this a try? Come in the store and pick up the yardage requirements and first step! The 2nd step will be given out for Terrific Tuesday on the 10th!
